Hi it's Derry Tasty Food and we are always trying out the best takeaways and recommending restaurants to eat in the city but this week I decided on a takeaway and you might have heard of Saffron on Clarendon Street in Derry but have you tried their takeaway experience?

I ordered the tandoori mix, rice and Makan sauce...meltdown! It was very tasty dish and would recommend trying it out in Saffron. You can order a takeaway or book a table but make sure to book in advance to get a table as it's a very popular Indian restaurant. The restaurant open till 10pm most nights and takeaway open till 11pm it's worth trying Saffron Experience you won't know unless you try.
You can book or call for takeaway now on 028 7126 0531
Visit website: Saffronderry.co.uk to see menus and more from Saffron.

After 2014's successful Fashion Fest the event returns to Derry for it's 2nd year in the city with some huge fashion shows this November. It's an event not to be missed as if you thought it couldn't get any better in 2015 it really does.

It's been the first fashion show to come to the northwest ever since we've had small low key events in the past and we've seen all the fashionistas on the catwalk at Belfast FASHIONWEEK.
But this is a very similar event but on a smaller scale which features local key designers, exhibitions, stalls and latest trends. Which is a similar idea to your bigger Fashion Week shows and is more locally focused on what the people of Derry like to wear.

Little Painted Lady: Autumn Fashion look for 2015

10/1/2015

Picture
Hi it's Little Painted Lady with my Derry Vibe Autumn Fashion look for 2015 and as October kicks off with some fantastic weather ,I thought there is no better time to share some of my favourite Fashion Pieces with you all.

And of course ever the bargain hunter, most of my items are from High street retailers or on-line boutiques, All of which are super affordable.

One celebrity I have become so obsessed with at the minute is the gorgeous Kylie Jenner, should it be on her snapchat, Instagram or Tumblr the girl always looks drop dead gorgeous , with an array of on trend outfits to match! But a few of my favourites that I have seen her in at present is the stunning Tan Seudette Asymetric dress and another is a Tan Seude Jacket. Both being paired with perfectly matching accessories of course. But unfortunately we all can't afford to go all High End and designer when it comes to our clothes, so I have sought out some "steal her style" options, just for you .
Picture
Picture
Another style I have fallen for this season is Tartan, I don't know what it is about it, Maybe the fact my Daddy grew up in Scotland and i'm showing my true colours , or maybe that it is just sooo gorgeous and super easy to wear, either dressed up or ultra casual. Personally tho I think no one wears it better than the Beautiful Emma Watson. Here she's wearing the stunning McQ Alexander McQueen Tartan Wool Puffball Mini Dress which would set you back a whopping £470.00. Instead I have chosen a super affordable option that looks just as good.
Picture
The next, I have to say is one my all time favourites, Burgandy/Berry shades are key at the moment , its a colour I always choose to fall back on , that's when im not wearing my usual Black (boring, I know) but Burgandy is a shade that will go with almost everything, should you choose to wear head to toe Berry tones is entirely up to you, but here Mollie King oozes sex appeal with this slinky leather skirt and pattern jumper, teamed up with  some super cute black ankle boots and a matching berry lipshade this just screams Autumn to me. I paired my look with a plain roll neck jumper for that added extra Autumn/winter feel.
Picture
Lastly I come to over the knee or knee high boots, Unfortunately being only 5ft I can't get away with this look as-well as others could, I just look like a wee child wearing my mums shoes again (hehe). But if I had to choose one celebrity who I think wears the look to perfection it has to be the Stunning Miranda Kerr . This just looks so sophisticated and super elegant.
Picture
I hope you all enjoyed my little fashion post and also hope you all have a fantastic start to October, but for now its Love hugs and kisses from Little Painted Lady and don't forget to follow me on Twitter for more: @LittlePaintedLady

I will have more Fashion looks for you soon xx

Top 5 Tips for Students heading away from home to University

10/1/2015

Picture
Here's some of our top tips on how to feel good and keep those nasty viruses or flu's away while your away studying at University.

1. Go sign up to local doctors or GP
Sign up to a local doctor who can advise you on best options if you ever become unwell. It's so simple to register with a practice while your away studying in the UK. It's also essential to get your Flu Jab that could help you prevent from getting ill during your term.

2. Keep Clean always wash hands

If your staying in a student house or sharing a house with a lot of students then it's always best to keep your hands clean as you never know where some peoples hands might have been. So either get a sanitize hand wash that kills bacteria in your hands or there is some really good hand washes that you can clean your hands with without washing your hands but we always advise getting something like  Carex Hand Gels that can protect your hands for up to two hours. Always keep your hands clean especially if your cooking food as it could cause someone to catch something and remind others to is always helpful.

3. Eat Healthy and take Vitamins can help you prevent illness

It's always something people always say to take your vitamins to keep the doctor away. It's a true saying as it can help prevent you from getting certain flu's that may be going round your student room or in your class in which you can easily pick up and you don't wanna end up sick during your course.

4. Drink reasonably and have a first aid kit in case of emergency.

We might as well not say it but try to drink responsibly during your course as you have a few years of parties and madness to handle and take some paracetamols if needed for headaches from hangovers or feeling sick as it can always help. Also plasters and stuff are always needed in case of an accident as we can be all clumsy.

5. Safe Sex

Always perform safe sex at all times when you meet someone. It's so easy to get condoms and you can get them for free from your local doctor or you can buy them in chemist stores nearby and most convenient stores will sell packs of condoms of all sizes so there's never an excuse for not having safer sex while your away studying at university.

Little Painted Lady: My Review of Instanatural Hair Care

9/30/2015

Picture
Hi it's Little Painted Lady with my Beauty Blog tips for Derry Vibe and last week in the post I received 2 products from Instanatural, This company sell skincare as well as haircare products, these are made with all natural and organic ingredients.
The entire range of products are made with-out harmful alcohols, parabens and sulphates which can be quite irritating to the skin. Instead they focused on formulating their products with the highest quality ingredients that can be found through-out the world. Their mission is to create natural solutions that are both effective and affordable.

I received the Superior Hydration Argan Oil Hair Mask, this product retails for £17.95 on their Amazon store with free delivery in the UK. I also got the Luxurious Argan Oil Hair Treatment & Elixir which retails for £19.95 also with free postage in the UK.
Picture
The First one I used was the Argan Oil Hair Mask, this is a deep conditioning treatment designed to transform dry, damaged hair into soft, shiny, healthy hair, it is packed with restorative ingredients such as , Argan Oil, Japanese Green Tea, Amino Acid complex, Coconut oil, Shea Butter, Jojoba oil, Avocado Oil & vitamin B5, together these penetrate hair and leave it super hydrated with loads of shine. The intensive ingredients also strengthen the hair to defend against heat damage and other external aggressors. This is thee perfect product for my hair as many of you may know I  have one section of my hair bleached within an inch of its life, so I found that when I left the mask in as an overnight treatment that is when I achieved the best results. It left my hair sooo hydrated, feeling so healthy and it looked extra shiny.
The aroma off this product is gorgeous, reminds me almost in the Palmers body butter as does the texture, even after applying the product my skin felt super soft.
Picture
The second Product I used was the Argan Oil Hair Treatment & Elixir, This product is also jam packed with Argan Oil, Coconut Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Olive Oil and Shea Butter. This revitalizes weak, limp and lifeless hair. It quenches dryness, tames frizz and infuses instant long-lasting luminous shine. Their unique formula contains 100% buttery rich plant oils that also penetrate the hair fibre and rehydrate the dry scales of hair cuticles. In addition, Panthenol strengthens the hair by filling the cracks and the Shea Butter thickens the hair to add volume.
I found this to be a little miracle worker, especially after my hair was freshly washed , I dispensed a teeny tiny amount onto the palm of my hand, rubbed the product into my hands them little glided it over where I needed, as when I was styling I had those little fly away hairs and this tamed them perfectly. Again this conditioned my blonde hair sooo well, when compared to other hair care products this one comes out tops for me.
This can also be used as an over night treatment but it must be washed out with shampoo afterwards as it has quite an oil consistency.
The only scent to this Hair treatment was almost like an Olive Oil smell, which i'm sure we could all put up with.
Picture
And that's all this week I hope you all have a fantastic day, if you wish to purchase them you can do over on their Amazon store by clicking here
but for now its Love, Hugs and kisses from Lady Painted Lady follow my Twitter @LittlePaintedLady

My Derry life with Pete Gerard: The Derry Citizen Test

9/30/2015

Picture
Hi it's Pete Gerard with my Derry Vibe Blog and I am taken a look at how to become a Derry Citizen with my Citizen Test.

Derry is a strange place. The late Gerry Anderson once described it as “Monaco, without the Money”.

In many ways it is like a mini-Northern Ireland with all the wider problems throughout the province focused into the small but beautiful city situated in the North West of Ireland. I have spent a lot of time up here in recent years. While I don’t feel completely accepted by locals I do feel that my eyes have been opened to a wider world beyond Belfast by coming up here.

I want to become a Citizen of Derry. I wish there was a test I could take. One day my ambition in life is to be the first Belfast man to be Mayor of Derry. I’d be great at cutting ribbons, wearing gold chains and I would chat to anyone provided they were dead on. I have also heard there are secret Mayor parties where you get to meet Boris Johnson.

However, I don’t feel I will be fully accepted by the city until I have learnt a few things that everyone who has lived in the city knows about. I don’t mean visit the Guild Hall and get a tour of the Walls. I mean really get under the skin of this place. So after asking a few people around the city, Here is the check list of things you have to know about to be accepted by local people in Derry:

Chat to Someone outside Derry about calling it Londonderry

As I write this I can feel some members of a certain side of the community’s blood boiling, “It’s LONDONDERRY you ignorant wannabe hipster”. And maybe you are right, but I am too lazy to write LON-DON-Der-ry all the time. Most of the people who think I should write Londonderry all the time come from Belfast. My impression is that whatever people’s background up here a vast majority of them don’t care. It is only people from outside the city who bring this up. Most people who live here are over the whole Derry~Londonderry issue.

Picture
Yes, I know the history. I know people came over from London, built walls around the city and that’s how it got it’s name. But I also know that I like to chat really fast and can’t say Londonderry all the time, unless I want to use valuable conversation space.

I reckon the people who get hung up on this issue are the same people who insist on calling their children Anne-Marie or Hannah-Ruth or Clive-Staples. Why can’t we all just call you Clive?

If you still insist on calling it Londonderry all the time I hope you keep up your high standards. I hope you always mention your travels to Newcastle-on-Tyne, Stoke-on-Trent, The Democratic Republic of Congo, The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, The United States of America and Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyll-llantysiliogogogoch. See how far that gets you. If you end up in hospital with Temporomandibular joint Disorder it’s your own fault.

Picture
Take Your Oil’

This is a Local Derry Phrase… It means ‘Catch yourself On’ or ‘Wise Up’ for those of you from Belfast. For the rest of the world, there is no accurate translation for this phrase… Sorry.

Go to the Gym…A Lot

Having arrived in Derry for the first time in 2008 I still consider myself a blow in. I don’t know half the streets are and I still rely on Sat-Nav to get me to Bridie’s chip shop. But I have observed one very obvious cultural shift among the males living in Derry.

Yes, the metrosexual skinny Derry man is still alive and well but he is being phased out by a different beast, and I blame TOWIE.

Since the Launch of that show and similar ones, the men of Derry have started to resemble Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson from above the waist and Cheryl ‘The Rake’ Tweedy below the waist.

Picture
If you got 10p for every bench press you did, Derry would be full of Millionaires. The Local economy could have gone through a Celtic Tiger all on it’s own!

Go to Boots at 1650 on a Friday afternoon and you are likely to witness grown men fighting over the last bottle of fake tan available in the shop. Everyone knows Derry men have to look their best for their evening back and biceps session at the local Crossfit Gym.

Picture
Yes, the men of Derry are currently going psycho over fitness and looking jacked. But it I fear it’s about to get worse. Rumour has it that the ‘Top Knot’ has taken off in Belfast and is likely to spread to the Waterside very soon.
Picture
Please No…

Warning: It’s called ‘Creggan’ not ‘The Creggan’

This is a mistake you make only once. If you want to make enemies fast try calling it ‘The Creggan’. Maybe it’s similar to Derry~Londonderry issue but I def don’t want to find out.

Picture
Get a Haircut

If you are ever stranded in Derry City Center you may end up cold and hungry, but at least you will do it in style thanks to one of the 4,000 barber shops scattered around the city.

With so many to choose from such as Derry Barbers, Foyle Haircuts, McGarvey’s, Derry City Barbers, I can’t believe it’s Not Derry City Barbers and Bog Back ‘N’ Sides you have no excuse not to be trim and well groomed if you are male and aged between 18 and 45 in the city.

Picture
I do feel for bald people walking around Derry. It must be tough seeing a constant reminder of what once was there. A bit like when Robbie Williams checks his fan mail inbox.

Get Tights to Sing to You…

Scotland has the Loch Ness Monster, Transylvania has Dracula and Derry has it’s own local legend…. Tights.
Picture
This is a man I have only heard rumours of his existence but never actually met in the flesh. I’m told the final step in being welcomed into the Derry Clan happens when Tights sings ‘Puppy Love’ to you on a Thursday night.

People who have met Tights tell me only good things… He even has his own youtube video…

When I asked around the city for an update on Tights the word is he is very much alive…
Picture
I have also heard he is staying in the house a lot more these days and drinking Fanta. I still hope if we ever meet he will still be able to recall the classic Donny Osmond song. I still need to be initiated into Derry.

Tobacco Onions

Throughout Derry there are roughly 30 restaurants worth talking about which collectively serve about 5 main courses between them.

If you are a vegetarian and you are heading to Derry, may I suggest Limavady or Strabane? Because Derry ain’t the place for you.

On the other hand… If you like Chilli Chicken Pittas and Tobacco Onions come on in.

Picture
Derry people are obsessed with Tobacco Onions. Strawberries and Cream and Tobacco Onions is a local favorite dessert. There has been a local campaign to get rid of popcorn at Brunswick cinema and replace it with Tobacco onions.

During recent fragile negotiations between the PSNI and local paramilitaries, Tobacco Onions were used as a bargaining tool in an attempt to restore peace… and so far it seems to have worked. We can only hope that Derry is supplied with it’s  weekly quota of Tobacco Onions and the tensions here are kept at bay.

Country Music

People think Northern Ireland is divided into people who are Protestant and Catholic but they are wrong.

The real division is East Coast/West Coast and is along the lines of what you think of Country Music. If you ever stumble across Hugo Duncan’s radio programme and think ‘Who listens to this guff?’ Visit Derry and you will find out.

Songs like ‘That’s important to me’  by Keelan and the cover version of ‘Hit the Diff’ by Ritchie Remo mean nothing to people in Belfast but around Derry the guys performing these songs are musical superstars!
Nathan Carter can’t walk down Shipquay street without getting attacked by a mob of 16 stone young farmers.

The Samaritans set up a special Garth Brooks hotline after what is now known in Derry as ‘the July 2014 incident’
And Everyone in Derry knows you only have a girlfriend because Derek Ryan doesn’t want her.

Picture
In the surrounding towns of Derry, ‘Socials’, usually organised by young farmers, are still massive. While in Belfast you had a chance with a girl by chatting her up in The Box and buying her some Buckfast, in certain parts of Derry unless you know all the moves to ‘Strip the Willow’ you don’t stand a chance.

Other Things Needed

Once You Understand These things about Derry you are halfway to being accepted by the locals. But there is still much to learn.  If you have come this far you have only got your Derry Green card. To get a passport you must achieve the following:

  1. Get chatted up by a Cougar in Da Vinci’s
Picture
2. Chat up a ‘Derry Wan’ who is out of your league in Metro. Dance with her for a few songs until you think you actually have a chance and all your hard work in the gym, applying fake tan and Lynx are about to pay off. Then make a move to seal the deal and find out she is just teasing you and she’d rather not. Then try and dance-walk away in a manner that still makes you look cool.

3. Talk about Derry City football team or Derry GAA but never actually go to a match.

Picture
4. Talk about the peace bridge non stop and how it’s the greatest thing to happen to Derry since Nadine Coyle moved to LA.
Picture
5.  Never leave Derry and freak out months in advance if you have to get the Ulsterbus to Belfast.
Picture
6. Your final step in the Journey is to recite all the lyrics to the real anthem of Derry…. Saunter…
If you have done all of this at least you have tried..

Little Painted Lady: My Autumn Lip Colour Tips

9/9/2015

Picture
Hi it's Little Painted Lady with my new Derry Vibe blog for Beauty and Fashion tips as we are gonna take a look at the Autumn look as it's almost end of the summer and as much as I love Summer I am just soooo glad to see the back of it,
Don't get me wrong I love a wee evening chilling out in the sun with a wee glass of wine, but I love Autumn that whole much more. Not only because we get to wrap up a bit more in gorgeous pre winter fashion , we also get to rock the vamp/dark lips that has been seen adorn all the fashion runways of late, and no-one can rock a dark lip better than the sultry vixen herself miss Dita Von Teese, this look just ticks all the boxes when it comes to getting that Autumn runway 2015 look, from the berry coloured lips to the winged liner she is bang on trend.
Picture
We all love to put our own wee spin on make-up looks though as some of us aren't lucky enough to have a make-up artist on beacon call, as much as we would all love it. So here I have done my own wee cheap version of the dark lip/winged liner catwalk look for a quarter of the price. For this look I have used Sleek's Matte Me lip stain in the shade Fandango -£4.99 liquid black eyeliner from Primark - £1.00, black khol pencil from primark £1.00 to line the waterline . Foundation is Revlon colourstay in shade Natural Beige £12.99 from Boots, slight contour with MUA in shade 3 £1.00 from Superdrug. Baked Highligher shade RoseGold £1.00 in Savers. For brows I used Fm Cosmetics Brow Palette from Fm Cosmetics £8.99. Black Mascara from Primark £1.00. Guys as you can see none of these products were expensive ,so even on a budget this look is quite easy to put your own stamp on.
Picture
Choosing one staple lip colour for Autumn is so difficult though as there is just so many shades to choose from , so here is a few i have choose as my Top favourites ranging from highend to budget buy and can i just say that even i struggle to tell the difference in some of these shade as they are so similar....

Highend Options:

Picture

Budget Buys:

Picture
When trying to choose perfect shades I was spoilt for choice, there was soooo many to choose from but these are the few that I managed to whittle down to be in my best buys for Autumn , some of them were absolute steals for as low as £1.00!! I mean who could moan at that price, really???
I know that some of us may not feel so adventurous when it comes to trying out new shades of lipsticks, especially when some are as dark as your soul, but fear not I have you guys covered. here I have chose a few tinted lip balms ranging in price again, granted they will not have the same look as the lipsticks when applied but it still will give you that subtle little bit of colour without going over board.

Tinted Lip Balms:

Picture
I have seen so many of the beauties Rocking this new trend on social media, mainly Instagram over the past week, it seems to be so hard to choose which look I liked the best but, when it comes to the crunch no-one and I mean no-one can rock it better than these three stunners.
I follow these ladies religiously on all of their social media sites, but I will link their Instagram pages down below for you all to check them out.

Many Beauties Rock this trend on Instagram:
